In a heist straight out of Guy Ritchie’s movie “Snatch,” a couple of armed bandits disguised themselves as Hasidic Jews to steal €3.5 million worth of jewels from a New York diamond wholesaler in the middle of the day.
Garbed in Orthodox costumes of black coats and hats and phony beards, the robbers showed fake ID to a security guard on New Year’s Eve and took the elevator to the fifth floor the Manhattan building., all while under video watch.
The brazen bearded bandits then strolled past even more cameras and were checked through two doors into the shop before drawing their weapons, police said.
Just before getting let into the second door, the hairy Hasidics spray-painted the lens of a surveillance camera.
They were in and out in less than five minutes.
Hasidim, but I don’t believe ‘em!
So it was 4 million worth of diamonds. We know police love to overestimate crime figures. Then consider the $1,000 ring I gave my wife for our engagement that I could only sell for like $20.00, as we know diamonds and the like are way overprices at retail. So street value on the haul is what, $800. They would have been better off robbing a liquor store.
