Arsenal Beats Celtic in Champions League Play-Off
Football fans just cannot have missed out on the start of the Champions League 2009-2010 tournament since one exciting match has already been taking place! This Tuesday, Arsenal beat Celtic with a 2-0 score on the latter’s home ground in Glasgow. On Saturday, Arsenal had already hit it off when they prevailed over the Liverpudlian club Everton with a score of 6-1. Although Arsenal dominated last Tuesday’s match against Celtic, the Londoners may count themselves lucky: the first goal resulted from a free-kick by Arsenal captain Cesc Fabrega’s that deflected in off William Gallas’ back, the second was an own goal by Celtic player Caldwell.
Arsenal’s Robin van Persie:
“We had two huge slices of luck. William’s run made the first goal but it was very lucky. The second goal was a good attack but again unlucky for them.”
Naturally, Celtic disapproved of Arsenal’s playing style.
Celtic boss Mowbray:
“The nature of the goals was very disappointing. Gallas was trying to get out of the way”
The second leg of the Champions League play-off stage, the return of the match between Arsenal and Celtic, will be played out next Wednesday in the Emirates Stadium in London.
